Separ SWK2000 range - service and backwashing instrucitons
Changing a dirty element
Before any servicing work is carried out, please ensure the filter is isolated from the fuel supply (typically by ball valves, however in the case of our duplex assemblies - image 2 - the dirty filter can be isolated by moving the built-in handle). With a simplex filter, as the fuel supply to your engine will be halted, please ensure you engine is switched off prior to any works.

-
Loss of engine power (reduced RPM)
-
Vacuum indication gauge will register a vacuum in the filter.
Procedure to backwash filter

Stop engine or switch filters on the duplex model
- Vacuum will still be present at the top of the filter. WHY? The fuel system is a sealed system!
- If there is no vacuum present there may be a leak in the system.
Open vent screw
- Pressure is equalized.
- The dirt particles will release from the bottom of the element.
- Gravity assists the dirt particles to slowly fall to the bottom of the bowl.
Open the drain-cock
- The clean fuel above the element will backwash the filter element.
- Drain until the dirt is removed from the element (do not empty filter)
Close the drain-cock.
Close vent screw (prime fuel system).
Engine may now be restarted.
Should the engine still lack power or RPM, the filter element may need changing (see above).
